A tour of the Agilent Technologies Company Archives will be
conducted by Archivist Karen Lewis and will cover the company's six decades
of innovation and history in Silicon Valley. The mission of the Agilent
Archives is to act as a center for the selective collection, custody,
preservation and security of the company's archival documents, products and
images.
Agilent Technologies may be a new name to you, but the company has
been making history in Silicon Valley since 1939. Agilent is the result of a
strategic realignment that, in 1999, spun off Hewlett Packard's test and
measurement, semiconductor, medical, life sciences and chemical analysis
businesses. At that time, two archives were created -- one at HP and another
at Agilent. Karen Lewis is very familiar with both collections, having been
with HP/Agilent since 1987, when she was hired by HP to set up the Archives
Program in advance of HP's 50th anniversary. Karen's current title is the
Director, Media Communications and Archives.

Before the tour begins, Karen plans to discuss the organization of
the Archives, and the role it can play in a corporate setting. This will
include a discussion of the relationship between the corporate Archives and
the corporate library, and the similarities and differences between the two
organizations.

The Agilent Archives is located at the corporate headquarters at 395
Page Mill Road in Palo Alto, the site of Bill Hewlett and Dave Packard's
first manufacturing facility.

DIRECTIONS:

Agilent Headquarters is located near the California Avenue business district
in Palo Alto, where Page Mill Road dead-ends at Park Boulevard.

 Approaching from 101:
Exit at Oregon Expressway/Page Mill Road.
Go about 1.5 miles on Oregon Expressway headed toward El Camino. You will
cross Middlefield.
Where Oregon Expressway dips under the Central Expressway, take the right
exit marked "California Ave. Businesses."
Turn right at end of exit ramp; turn right again onto Park Blvd.
Drive one block; turn right into Agilent Technologies parking.
Building (the only building) is on the right; enter the main entrance.
(Note: if you miss the "California Ave. Businesses" exit, make a U-turn at
El Camino.)

 Approaching from El Camino Real:
Turn onto Page Mill Road/Oregon Expressway, heading toward 101 (away from
280).
STAY TO THE RIGHT, on Page Mill Road.
NOTE: The left two lanes veer left and become "Oregon Expressway," dipping
down under Central Expressway/Alma viaduct.
In less than 2 blocks, after Ash Street, turn right into the Agilent
Technologies parking lot.
If you miss the turn into parking, continue another half-block and turn
right onto Park Boulevard. See instructions above.
If you accidentally take the Oregon Expressway lanes, then keep going and
use your U-turn skills when it appears legal.

From the California Avenue Caltrain station:
Walk out the main station building exit down California Avenue.
Turn left at the first corner, Park Boulevard.
Walk 4-5 blocks. Agilent is at the corner of Park and Page Mill.
If you have questions on the day, call the Archives at (650) 752-5978.
