Hi Deb and Barbara,
I second that recommendation. Ross McDonald Company has designed
and installed many of the California state agency libraries, including mine
at CalPERS. The load-bearing capacity of the floor must be a consideration
when designing any shelving system, but especially with compact shelving.
It is the most cost-effective way to store a maximum of items in a
minimum of space. Last month I saw new compact shelving used to hang and
store many large pieces of art at the State Museum Resources Center in West
Sacramento, which otherwise would have taken much wall space in many rooms.
I marveled at the ease at which each shelving unit moved, without motors,
enabling us to easily walk between the rows of artworks for viewing
purposes.

I highly recommend the Ross McDonald Company. They are in Livermore and it's
a family run business. The grandfather and grandson did the installation.
Garen McDonald came out and did the measuring and astutely saw that I needed
deeper than normal shelves. I love the system. It allows a lot of storage in
a small space. Mine is not motorized and still moves easily. Contact is

Burlingame Public Library. I can't think of any disadvantages. My system was
purchased in 1999 so prices I'm sure have risen and it is small compared to
many -- 41 bookcases. I don't have the cost info handy I'd have to look it
up.
