“Building Successful Work Relationships Through Effective Communications”
Presenter:  Dr. Pat Fitzgerald, President, Pacific Gateway Associates, Inc., Sausalito, California

Dr. Fitzgerald will present the basic concepts of communication associated with verbal and non-verbal techniques and examine the emotional intelligence aspect of reactions to sending and receiving messages in a diverse work environment.  While emphasizing the importance of influencing others through strong communication techniques, Dr. Fitzgerald will identify the differences between assertive and aggressive communication behaviors.


“Negotiation Skills for Career Management”

Presenter: Dr. Bill Fisher, School of Library and Information Science, San Jose State University, California, SLA President 2002-2003

Dr. Fisher will take a look at the tools and techniques for career development that are available to those in the special library/information center environment with special emphasis on surviving the job search and the performance appraisal process.
