I thought the envelope thing was odd but primarily because they didn't
provide a lot of information at the time about the specifics of what the
money would pay for (at least I don't remember them saying much). That
information is now on the SLA web site at
http://www.sla.org/content/learn/annualcampaignPDC/index.cfm but should have
been included in a brochure or fact sheet handed out with the envelopes
perhaps. I too wondered what "my fair share" would pay for when we'd all be
paying again when we signed up for a class. Now that I've read what the web
site has to say, I feel more comfortable with the campaign. SLA should have
done a better job of announcing it at the meeting though.

I felt the same way as Rita when the envelopes were passed out. One thing
that I'd really like to know is how the new PD program will go
with the Certification. I know the article Michael sent mentioned it, but
I'm wondering if we will be able to take classes not offered by SLA that
will go towards certification. It would be self-serving of SLA if only the
courses it offered were counted. I cannot think of another organization I
belong to that has asked me to donate money for the PD program that I am
then expected to pay for again when I actually take a class in the program.
Also, how will additional degrees or units towards another master's or
other degree be counted? Lots of unanswered questions at this point.
I've not seen anything on the SLA Leadership listserv yet.
Let's continue this discussion.
