Subject: SLA-SF: Senate approves electronic ID card bill

Hi all,

Just want to forward this to the group. It's one of the scariest things
I've seen come out of Washington. You suppose people will be able to get
library cards without first getting their ID cards?

Senate approves electronic ID card bill

Americans will be required to
<http://news.com.com/National+ID+cards+on+the+way/2100-1028_3-5573414.ht
ml?tag=nl> obtain federally approved ID cards with "machine readable
technology" that abides by Department of Homeland Security
specifications. Anyone without such an ID card will be effectively
prohibited from traveling by air or Amtrak, opening a bank account, or
entering federal buildings.
