Attention Information Professionals:
Are you contemplating a career move?
Has your career gotten lost in your day-to-day work?
Do you want to kick-start your career?
If you answered yes to any of these questions, then you're a great
candidate for Info Pros on the Go, a free, self-guided career
development project! Please read on for more details...
- Invitation
You are invited to participate in a nine month self-guided career
development project for information professionals. This project, known
as Info Pros on the Go, will focus on advancing the careers of info pros
by:
*helping participants devise their own career boosting goals and action
plans;
*querying participants throughout the life of the project to assess
their progress and provide encouragement and;
*providing web-based resources and utilities to support their career
development.
- Who is conducting this project?
The project facilitators are Karen Krugman and Tom Nielsen, both
currently info pros who also previously ran the Solos+ special interest
group to help New York City area solos network and build community.
- Why this type of project?
Today's info pros are busier than ever, tackling patron and management
demands, new technologies and resources, but oftentimes our careers get
lost in the work we're dedicated to. Info Pros on the Go is an
opportunity to get organized and focused on your own career advancement.
- How will the project work?
Over the course of the project, participants will develop and work
toward achieving a job or career related goal. Participants will also
complete a series of questionnaires designed to assist goal selection
and tracking:
*Questionnaire 1 will include some tough questions about your personal
and professional attitudes, ambition, job performance and job
satisfaction.
You will then be asked to develop a major career development goal to be
completed by the project's end.
*Questionnaires 2 and 3 will assess your goal progress and use of
project utilities.
*Questionnaire 4 will assess your final goal progress and revisit your
personal and professional attitudes, ambition level, job performance and
job satisfaction.
Throughout the year we will help you reach your goal by providing
several
resources: an online discussion list for participant interaction and
support, and a personal weblog in which you can record your day-to-day
experience. After the project ends, we will analyze the results and
document them along with the project methodology in a book to be
published by Information Today, Inc.
- Application
We are looking for information professionals with more than three years
of post-MLS work experience who are currently employed and working in a
special library or information center or related information
environment.
