SAN FRANCISCO BAY REGION CHAPTER PROGRAM EVENT
Wednesday, December 7, 2005 - Caffe Verbena, Oakland
The SF Bay Region Chapter of SLA invites you to join your colleagues for dinner and the following program:
Librarians as Authors - what it's like to be an author in the Bay Area
Are there special challenges when you're an author in the SF Bay Area? The program features two colleagues:
Barbara Geisler, former head librarian at the San Francisco Performing Arts Library and Museum, author of Graven Images, the second installment in The Averillan Chronicles
and
David Dodd, library director at the San Rafael Public Library, editor of The Complete Annotated Grateful Dead Lyrics
Both authors will provide insight on what it's like on "the other side of the aisle" and their perspectives on the research and writing process.
Location: CAFFÈ VERBENA, 1111 Broadway, Lobby Level Oakland, CA 94607, Tel. 510.465.9300, Caffe Verbena is located on the south side of the APL building (1111 Broadway), on 11th St. between Clay and Broadway, and across the street from the Oakland Marriott and the Oakland Convention Center. The restaurant entrance is set back from the street so the location is a bit hidden. Look for the signs directing you to the restaurant. From San Francisco:
Take the Bay Bridge to 580 toward Hayward. Merge onto 980 W. toward downtown Oakland. Take the 12th St. exit. Make a left onto 11th St.
From Highway 24:
From 24 merge onto 980 W. toward downtown Oakland. Take the 12th St. exit. Make a left onto 11th St.
From South 880:
Take 880 N. Take the Broadway exit. Turn right onto Broadway. Turn left onto 10th St. Turn right onto Clay St. Turn right onto 11th St.
From East 580:
Take 580 W. toward San Francisco. Merge onto 980 W. toward downtown Oakland. Take the 12th St. exit. Make a left onto 11th St.
Parking
The nearest parking garage is City Center Parking, with an entrance on the left side of 11th St. just after Clay St. There is free parking after 5:00 p.m.

Menu: This will be a cocktail and socializing event with a wide variety of appetizer, small plate and passed sweets such as mini Ahi tuna tartar on crispy wontons, Caesar salad on foccacia crostini, Asian vegetable cucumber cups with sesame, five spice chicken "lollipops" as well as other delectables.
Cost: Members $35; Guests/non-members $40; Students, retirees, unemployed $18; program only $5
