-----------------------------------------------------
SLA, in conjunction with other U.S.-based library associations, announces a call for those interested in seeking endorsement for either President-elect or At-Large Member of the Governing Board of the International Federation of Library Associations and Institutions (IFLA) for 2007-2009.

With the library and information profession growing more globally in recent years, active involvement in IFLA has taken on new meaning. A prime example of this renewed emphasis was discovered through the World Summit on the Information Society, as IFLA actively engaged Summit participants over three years to promote the value of libraries around the globe in helping to close the digital divide.

Since 2004, SLA, the American Association of Law Libraries, the American Library Association, the Association for Library and Information Science Education, the Association of Research Libraries, and the Medical Library Association have worked together to cooperatively select and endorse possible nominees for these positions.

Persons interested in seeking the endorsement of these associations should send a letter of interest (with qualifications) and a CV or résumé to Janice R. Lachance, Chief Executive Officer of SLA, at Janice@sla.org.

Alternatively, requests may be sent to the executive director of any other participating U.S.-based library association. All letters of interest must be received by 1 June 2006.

Nominees will be interviewed by representatives of the U.S.-based library associations at the World Library and Information Conference in Seoul in August.

For more information, please contact Doug Newcomb at SLA Headquarters on +1.703.647.4923 or dnewcomb@sla.org
