Come learn from Dr. Steve Albrecht, from the Baron Center in San Diego. Dr.
Albrecht is a nationally recognized expert on workplace safety and security
as it pertains to libraries. He has presented his "service with safety"
program to library systems around the state of California.

Workshop Description: This all-day workshop will provide library staff and
supervisors with more peace of mind and make them more comfortable when
dealing with conflicts involving patrons. The statistics don't lie - the
odds are small that any of us will be hurt by a violent act at work.
However, as anyone who works with the public can attest, incidents of
threats and related inappropriate behavior from library patrons are on the
increase. The types of threats that patrons pose to library staff have
changed and multiplied. Library staff members need to acquire new tools and
skills to handle today's challenges to
our safety and security while at work.

At this workshop, you will learn the latest concepts and techniques to
prevent violence and defend yourself and your library. This powerful,
dynamic program will include examination of the types of threats posed by
some library patrons; options for managing threatening patrons; personal
safety awareness choices.

Workshop Instructor: Dr. Steven Albrecht. Dr.Albrecht is President of
Baron Center, Inc., a San Diego based consulting firm which is nationally
recognized for its workplace violence prevention and intervention services
and programs. Dr. Albrecht is internationally recognized for his expertise
and experience in the areas of threat assessment and management, workplace
violence, domestic violence
in the workplace, stalking and crisis management. Dr. Albrecht?s clients
have included government, military, educational institutions as well as law
firms, medical settings and Fortune 500 companies.

Who Should Attend: This session is ideal for all library staff and their
supervisors, managers, and administrators.

Prerequisites: None.

Fee: There is a $75.00 fee for this workshop. Infopeople does not provide
parking passes, lunch or refreshments.

Other Logistics:

*On-site check-in is from 8:30-9:00 AM; instruction is from 9:00 AM-4:30
PM.
