Actually Pac Bell used to keep old books. They were often referred to by
the sales folks. I used to work for the Yellow Pages Company. I'm not sure
what happened after I left in 1998. They kept an archive in the bowels of
the building at the Rincon Center. Phil Sheridan was the former librarian.
I wonder if he reads this list?

SBC pretty much does not keep old phone books - as far as I know, they are
only interested in current data. Oakland Public Library Main Branch is
likely to have them (in print). I worked there for a while, and they tried
to keep an ongoing phone book collection, from all over the world,
actually....
